Evidence-Based Practice / Unit 6   EBP 0806 short lesson, about 20 seconds

Appraising a Case-Control Study

Captions available

The idea

Appraising a case-control study asks how cases and controls were selected, whether they are otherwise comparable, and how exposure information was obtained from both.

In practice

Controls drawn from the same population as the cases, exposure ascertained the same way.

Where people slip

If exposure was established by asking, recall bias is present and the appraisal should say so rather than hunt for it.
