Evidence-Based Practice / Unit 22 EBP 3166 short lesson, about 20 seconds
Maturation and Observer Drift
Captions available
The idea
Participants change over time regardless of any intervention, and observers change how they rate things over the course of a study.
In practice
A result partly produced by time passing, and a rating that shifted as the rater tired.
Where people slip
Both threats produce a difference nobody introduced. Long studies are exposed to both, which is why duration is a design decision.
