The Tempest and the Romances
Captions available
The idea
The Tempest, one of the last plays Shakespeare wrote alone, sets the magician Prospero on an island with his daughter Miranda, the spirit Ariel and the savage Caliban. It ends in forgiveness, not revenge. Miranda exclaims, "O brave new world," and Prospero says, "We are such stuff / As dreams are made on."
In practice
Magic, an island, forgiveness.
Where people slip
Romances end in reconciliation.
