The idea
John Osborne's Look Back in Anger, of nineteen fifty-six, a realist play about the disaffected working-class Jimmy Porter, is seen as an early "kitchen sink" drama. The Royal Court's press officer called Osborne an "angry young man," a label extended to writers such as Kingsley Amis.
In practice
Kitchen sink, working-class anger.
