The idea
Late Victorian magazines spread the short story. Kipling published tales of Anglo-India in newspapers before collecting them, and Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes, introduced in eighteen eighty-seven, became famous through short stories in The Strand Magazine from eighteen ninety-one.
