The idea
Oscar Wilde, a Dublin-born student of Ruskin and Pater, spread Aestheticism, wrote in nearly every genre, and was famous for his aphorisms. Convicted of gross indecency in eighteen ninety-five, he served two years' hard labour, wrote De Profundis and "The Ballad of Reading Gaol," and died in exile in Paris.
In practice
Aesthete, wit, prisoner, exile.
Where people slip
The anchor calls his aphorisms amoral.
