The idea

John Henry Newman, a leader of the Oxford Movement, which sought to restore Catholic beliefs and ritual to the Church of England, became a Roman Catholic in eighteen forty-five and later a cardinal. His Apologia Pro Vita Sua, of eighteen sixty-four, answered Charles Kingsley's attack on his honesty.

In practice

Anglican to Catholic; a spiritual autobiography.

Where people slip

The Apologia defends his sincerity.
