Prompt Fading
Captions available
The idea
Fading gradually withdraws support; prompt fading reduces verbal, gestural or physical prompts as the student gains control of a skill.
In practice
A teacher who guided a child's hand in writing an A, then pointed, then only said "remember the crossbar," has faded prompts.
Where people slip
Fading too slowly breeds prompt dependency; fading too fast brings frustration.
