The idea
A learning style is a person's preferred way of learning, such as through pictures, words or activity; teachers may support preferences sometimes but should never label students or lock them into a style.
In practice
A student who prefers diagrams still needs to learn from text.
Where people slip
Research has found virtually no evidence that matching instruction to a diagnosed style improves learning.
