The Internet
Captions available
The idea
The Internet is a network of networks — an interconnected set of nodes: hosts at the edge, routers in the core, numeric addresses naming every node.
In practice
A message crossing town hops router to router like mail through sorting stations.
Where people slip
One network of networks; the Web is a layer on it, arriving later.
