The First Programmer
Captions available
The idea
Ada Lovelace wrote punched-card sequencing instructions for Babbage's Analytical Engine — programming a machine a century before electronic computers existed — and became the world's first computer programmer.
In practice
Her cards told an engine of gears which calculation to perform, in what order.
Where people slip
Programming is older than the electronic computer.
