The idea
Data are raw facts; information is processed data carrying meaning; a database is a collection of related data — three terms in a strict chain.
In practice
The number 48502 is data; as a zip code, information; beside every other address on record, a database.
Where people slip
The chain runs one direction; meaning is added, not found.
