The Data Dictionary
Captions available
The idea
A data dictionary is the catalog holding a database's metadata — information describing content, format, and structure, such as every table and its fields — and it constitutes the heart of the database system.
In practice
A school system's dictionary lists every table before anyone opens one.
Where people slip
Data about the data is infrastructure, not paperwork.
