College Composition / Unit 24 CMP 0584 short lesson, about 20 seconds
Citing Paraphrase and Summary Too
Captions available
The idea
Quotations, paraphrases and summaries all require citations, because the ideas still belong to the source.
In practice
A paraphrase puts the words in your own form, but readers still need to know whose idea it is; a summary of an author's argument needs the author named.
Where people slip
Rewording an idea does not make it yours.
