The idea
The main point of a paragraph is usually stated in a topic sentence, which works like a small thesis for that paragraph.
In practice
Like a thesis, a topic sentence has a topic and an angle, but a narrower one: one supporting point.
Where people slip
A topic sentence that only names a subject, such as "Next, exercise," gives readers no point to follow.
