Absolute Value

This video presents the same text shown beside it, spoken and on screen. It adds nothing the text does not say.

State

The absolute value of a real number is its distance from zero on the number line, never negative: |−4| = 4 and |4| = 4.

Show

Distance ignores direction: −4 and 4 sit four units from zero on opposite sides, so the bars return 4 for both.

Builds on

  • Nothing — this is a starting point.

Unlocks

  • Nothing yet depends on this.
