The Midpoint Formula

This video presents the same text shown beside it, spoken and on screen. It adds nothing the text does not say.

State

The midpoint formula averages the coordinates of two endpoints: M = ((x₁ + x₂)/2, (y₁ + y₂)/2).

Show

For (1, 2) and (4, 6), the midpoint is (5/2, 8/2) = (2.5, 4) — halfway across and halfway up, the segment's exact center.

Watch for

Averages add then halve; distances subtract.
