Matter Defined
Captions available
The idea
Matter is anything that occupies space and has mass.
In practice
Air fits this definition: it inflates a balloon, taking up space, and has measurable mass even though it cannot be seen.
Where people slip
Because gases are invisible, students often exclude them from "matter" by instinct; an inflated balloon versus a deflated one visibly shows gas occupies space.
