The idea
A homogeneous catalyst exists in the same phase as the reactants, forming an intermediate that later decomposes to regenerate the catalyst.
In practice
Gaseous nitric oxide catalyzes gas-phase ozone decomposition, reacting with ozone in one step and being regenerated in a later one.
Where people slip
A homogeneous catalyst must still be regenerated by the end — appearing once with nothing reproducing it makes it a reactant.
