Average, Instantaneous, and Initial Rate

This video presents the same text shown beside it, spoken and on screen. It adds nothing the text does not say.

State

An average rate spans a measured interval; an instantaneous rate holds at one moment; an initial rate is the instantaneous rate at the start.

Show

A car's average speed over a trip is one number, but its speedometer at any moment gives the instantaneous rate.

Watch for

An average rate over a long interval can differ from the initial rate, since reactions slow with time.
