The idea
A photon's energy rises as its wavelength shortens, so shorter-wavelength light like violet carries more energy than longer-wavelength light like red.
In practice
Violet light, near 400 nanometers, carries more energy per photon than red light, near 700 nanometers, the two ends of the visible spectrum plants use.
Where people slip
Wavelength and energy move in opposite directions — longer waves carry less energy, not more.
