"Evolution Is Just a Theory"
Captions available
The idea
The objection that evolution is only a theory equates the scientific sense of the word with an everyday guess.
In practice
Germ theory and atomic theory carry the same word and the same weight of confirmed evidence; nobody reads those as tentative.
Where people slip
Demoting a claim by calling it a theory only works if the listener hears the wrong sense of the word.
