The Bohr effect describes how rising carbon dioxide and falling pH at active tissue shift hemoglobin's dissociation curve rightward, per Bio 3163, releasing oxygen more readily where needed.

Exercising muscle's acidic, CO2-rich environment triggers greater oxygen release than resting tissue does.
Where people slip
The Bohr effect adjusts local oxygen release — it does not change uptake at the lungs.
