The idea
Synovial joints produce movement types including flexion and extension, abduction and adduction, rotation, and, at specialized joints, supination, pronation, and opposition.
In practice
Turning the palm face-up is supination; turning it face-down is pronation, both at the same forearm joint.
Where people slip
Not every synovial joint permits every movement type — a joint's shape determines which motions it allows.
