The Set Point and Feedback Control

This video presents the same text shown beside it, spoken and on screen. It adds nothing the text does not say.

State

A set point is the target value a homeostatic system defends, per Bio 0051: receptors detect deviation from it and effectors act to reverse that deviation.

Show

A rise in core body temperature during exercise is detected and corrected toward the body's set point through sweating.

Watch for

A set point can shift, as in chronic hypertension, and the body then defends the new level.
