The idea
A polysaccharide is a long chain of monosaccharides joined by glycosidic bonds; starch and glycogen are storage forms built from glucose.
In practice
A plant stores excess glucose as starch in its roots and seeds; an animal stores it as glycogen in liver and muscle.
Where people slip
Starch and glycogen both store the same monomer, glucose, but differ in how tightly their chains are branched.
