Polymorphism

This video presents the same text shown beside it, spoken and on screen. It adds nothing the text does not say.

State

A polymorphic population displays two or more distinct phenotypic variants of a characteristic among its individuals, reflecting genetic variation at that locus.

Show

A litter of kittens showing several distinct coat-color patterns illustrates variation at a polymorphic locus within one litter.

Watch for

A trait is polymorphic only where variation has a genetic basis — diet or environment alone does not make a population polymorphic.
