Natural Selection Defined

This video presents the same text shown beside it, spoken and on screen. It adds nothing the text does not say.

State

Natural selection, per Unit 1's Bio 0056, is the differential survival and reproduction of individuals whose heritable traits better suit their environment.

Show

Individuals whose inherited traits improve survival and reproduction leave more descendants, so those traits become more common next generation.

Watch for

"Survival of the fittest" misleads if read as only the strongest or fastest — fitness means reproductive success, not physical dominance.
