A hydrogen bond is a weak attraction between a slightly positive hydrogen atom and a slightly negative atom, on a neighboring molecule or a distant part of the same molecule.
In practice
The slightly positive hydrogen of one water molecule is drawn to the slightly negative oxygen of a neighboring molecule.
Where people slip
A hydrogen bond is far weaker than a covalent bond within a molecule.
