Artificial Intelligence / Unit 5 AI 0227 short lesson, about 20 seconds
The Fixed Point
Captions available
The idea
The fixed point is where derivation stops because nothing new can be added — and the atoms established there are the consequence set: everything the knowledge base supports.
In practice
Run the same facts and rules in any order and the fixed point lands in the same place.
Where people slip
The consequence set contains conclusions nobody asked for — thoroughness is a cost as well as a virtue.
