Analyzing and Interpreting Literature / Unit 9   AIL 0830 short lesson, about 20 seconds

The Consequence, Not a Turn

Captions available

The idea

The couplet says that perceiving this makes the beloved's love more strong, to love that well which he must leave before long. It draws a consequence from the three images rather than reversing them. A couplet can conclude as well as turn, and the difference is examinable.

In practice

It concludes; it does not reverse.

Where people slip

Two things a couplet can do.
