Analyzing and Interpreting Literature / Unit 9   AIL 0812 short lesson, about 20 seconds

The Couplet

Captions available

The idea

A couplet is two consecutive rhyming lines, and the glossary gives it no headword despite defining the form that ends with one. In a Shakespearean sonnet the couplet delivers the verdict, and its rhyme makes it sound conclusive whether or not its argument is.

In practice

Two lines, and a verdict.

Where people slip

It sounds conclusive regardless.
