Analyzing and Interpreting Literature / Unit 9   AIL 0802 short lesson, about 20 seconds

A Poem as an Argument

Captions available

The idea

Many short poems state a position, develop it, complicate it, and settle it. Reading for that movement gives a passage a shape you can point at. Unit one's rule holds: an answer must be pointable, and a structural claim points at the line where the movement happened.

In practice

Point at the line where it moves.

Where people slip

Structure claims must be locatable.
