Analyzing and Interpreting Literature / Unit 9   AIL 0801 short lesson, about 20 seconds

Structure Against Form

Captions available

The idea

Form is the pattern a poem sits in; structure is the route its thinking takes through that pattern. A sonnet's form is fourteen lines. Its structure is where the claim changes direction. The exam asks about the second more often than the first.

In practice

Pattern outside, thinking inside.

Where people slip

The exam favours structure questions.
