Trap: Literal Read as Figurative
Captions available
The idea
Not every vivid phrase is a figure. A poem describing an actual rose with actual petals is being literal, however beautiful. Candidates over-apply figurative terms because a poem is expected to be figurative throughout, and the board can test that assumption directly.
In practice
Vivid is not the same as figurative.
Where people slip
Poems contain literal statements too.
