Analyzing and Interpreting Literature / Unit 7   AIL 0628 short lesson, about 20 seconds

Imagery, as the Anchor Defines It

The idea

The glossary says an image is a word picture, which may be a phrase, a sentence or a line, used to enhance appreciation of the figurative more than the literal. Imagery need not be visual, though the glossary's word picture invites that assumption.

In practice

A word picture, not only a visual one.

Where people slip

The term covers all five senses.
