Analyzing and Interpreting Literature / Unit 7 AIL 0613 short lesson, about 20 seconds
Blake's "Ah, Sunflower"
Captions available
The idea
Blake's sunflower poem in Songs of Innocence and of Experience opens: ah, sunflower, weary of time, who countest the steps of the sun. Weariness and counting are both human, attributed to a flower. That is personification, verifiable in the text, and a better example than the one the glossary gives.
In practice
Weary, and counting the sun's steps.
Where people slip
Two human capacities in one line.
