What the Form Makes Possible

Captions available

The idea

Because no one contradicts the speaker, the poem must let him contradict himself. The reader assembles a truth the speaker did not intend to give. That gap between what the voice reports and what the poem shows is the engine of the form.

In practice

The speaker gives away more than he means.

Where people slip

The gap is the poem's engine.
