Analyzing and Interpreting Literature / Unit 1   AIL 0036 short lesson, about 20 seconds

Whether a Reading Can Be Wrong

Captions available

The idea

Literary questions have defensible answers rather than proofs, and the board writes options so that one is better supported than the others. A reading is wrong on this exam when the words on the page do not carry it, not when a teacher disagrees.

In practice

Better supported, not merely arguable.

Where people slip

Defensible is not the same as right.
