Analyzing and Interpreting Literature / Unit 14   AIL 1303 short lesson, about 20 seconds

Why a Soliloquy Counts as Evidence

Captions available

The idea

Characters lie to each other and the audience must weigh them. By convention a character alone is not performing, so a soliloquy is the closest a play comes to the reliable narration units ten and eleven had. That is why exam questions cluster on them.

In practice

The closest drama gets to reliable telling.

Where people slip

Questions cluster here for that reason.
