Analyzing and Interpreting Literature / Unit 13   AIL 1256 short lesson, about 20 seconds

Reading Plays for Practice

Captions available

The idea

Read a scene aloud, or hear it. A play's meaning sits in delivery and in who is present, and silent reading loses both. Where that is impractical, at least track entrances and exits in the margin, which is where the irony lives.

In practice

Read aloud, or track the stage.

Where people slip

Silent reading loses the delivery.
