Analyzing and Interpreting Literature / Unit 13 AIL 1230 short lesson, about 20 seconds
Irony the Audience Assembles
Captions available
The idea
A third shape gives the audience pieces from several scenes that no character has together. Nobody is told anything directly; the knowledge is accumulated. This is the hardest to spot in an extract, because the extract may not contain the pieces.
In practice
Knowledge assembled across scenes.
Where people slip
An extract may not hold the pieces.
