David Walker's *Appeal*
Captions available
The idea
David Walker, born free to an enslaved father and a free mother, ran a Boston clothing store and in eighteen twenty-nine published his Appeal to the Colored Citizens of the World. It attacks Jefferson as a racist and a hypocrite and calls for resistance.
In practice
A pamphlet that named Jefferson.
Where people slip
It calls for resistance, not for patience.
