Judith Sargent Murray, "On the Equality of the Sexes"
Captions available
The idea
Murray, tutored alongside her brother in classical languages and mathematics, published "On the Equality of the Sexes" in seventeen ninety. She argues that any difference in achievement follows from a difference in education, not in mind, and that imagination, reason, memory and judgment are distributed alike.
In practice
The difference is schooling, not mind.
Where people slip
The essay predates Wollstonecraft's book.
