"The Red Wheelbarrow"
Captions available
The idea
Sixteen words say that so much depends upon a red wheel barrow glazed with rain water beside the white chickens. The poem gives no reason for the dependence, and its argument is that attention to an ordinary object is itself the poem's business.
In practice
Sixteen words, and no explanation.
Where people slip
The line breaks do most of the work.
