American Literature / Unit 2 AML 0123 short lesson, about 20 seconds
Drama: Act, Scene, Stage Direction, Soliloquy
Captions available
The idea
A play divides into acts and those into scenes. Stage directions carry what is seen rather than said. A soliloquy is a character alone, thinking aloud to the audience; an aside is a remark the other characters do not hear. Dialogue does the work narration does in fiction.
In practice
Acts, scenes, directions, and speech alone.
Where people slip
Stage directions are part of the text.
