American Literature / Unit 2 AML 0104 short lesson, about 20 seconds
Point of View and What It Hides
Captions available
The idea
Point of view is not only who speaks but what that position cannot see. A limited narrator hides other characters' motives; an omniscient one can hide by choosing silence. Exam questions often turn on information the chosen viewpoint withholds rather than on what it supplies.
In practice
What the position cannot see.
Where people slip
Withheld information is a technique, not an oversight.
