Captions available
The idea
Born Katherine O'Flaherty in St. Louis in eighteen fifty, Chopin married at twenty and moved to New Orleans and then to Cloutierville among the Creole and Acadian communities. Her husband's death in eighteen eighty-two left her in debt with six children, and she began publishing after settling the estate.
In practice
A widow with six children, writing.
Where people slip
The Louisiana years supplied the settings.
