Captions available
The idea
Freeman wrote New England villages of thin soil and hard economies, usually from a woman's side. In "The Revolt of 'Mother'" a farm wife whose husband builds a new barn instead of the promised house moves the family into the barn while he is away, and wins.
In practice
A wife who moves into the barn.
Where people slip
Her women win by acting, not by speaking.
