American Literature / Unit 2 AML 0102 short lesson, about 20 seconds
Narration: First Person, Third Limited, Omniscient
Captions available
The idea
A first-person narrator says "I" and knows only what that character can know. A third-person limited narrator follows one character's mind. An omniscient narrator moves between minds and across time. The choice decides what a reader is allowed to learn and when.
In practice
One mind, one mind reported, or all minds.
Where people slip
Pronouns identify the type in a sentence.
